Premier Dalton McGuinty visits Perth County

In December of 2009, the former Campbell Soup plant in Listowel was purchased by Erie Meat Products of Mississauga.  The Perth County Economic Development Office has worked closely with Erie Meats to facilitate their business expansion to Perth County.

The facility, now know as Listowel Cold Storage, had great appeal as an export depot.  The 60,000 sq ft of freezers were recommissioned in mid-February of 2010, and will be used to ship 50-60 Million pounds of poultry to world markets on an annual basis.

The remaining 240,000 sq ft of production space gave inspiration for the further processing of poultry products.  In order to expedite the purchase and installation of production equipment, the Economic Development office pursued numerous grant and funding opportunities.  The provincial government recognized the positive economic impact of investing in this business expansion.

"So today is an historic day for North Perth and area that provides people with renewed hope for new jobs. The County will continue to 'Cultivate Opportunity' by working with our local OMAFRA team, and our local businesses to create a competitive business environment."
