Perth County Municipalities Connecting with Youth across the Region to Develop Strategies to Engage and Retain our Youth for Tomorrow!

Posted by Economic Development Office on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

Perth County - Perth4Youth (P4Y) is an opportunity for residents from Perth County, St Marys and Stratford to work together on a strategy to engage, attract, and retain youth.  The Perth4Youth initiative, with your input, will identify and address the issues and opportunities that affect our local youth.  Lend your voice and energy to the project between January – April 2017.
In Perth, St Marys and Stratford youth (ages 15-29) are leaving and not returning.  Between the 2006 and 2016 geographic Perth County has experienced a continual decline in their youth population.  This decline contributes to a shrinking workforce, school closures, shrinking tax base and a growing aged population.  At the same time local businesses have identified a mismatch between youth skills and the positions available in our region making it difficult to find workers to sustain or grow their operations. Perth4Youth is will work on solutions to reverse these trends and close the skill gap.

Youth are important contributors to our economy and to our communities’ overall quality of life. Youth are entrepreneurs, performers, volunteers, mentors, community leaders, employees to small businesses and consumers in our local economies. Youth have a significant impact on the vitality of their communities, and we are looking for ways to support them – in growing, learning, transitioning from education to employment and making a home in Perth, St Marys and Stratford.
Whether you are a youth, parent, coach, teacher, emergency services worker, healthcare worker, service industry worker, manufacturer, construction worker, farmer or simply a neighbour, we need your voice. Please contact Meredith Forget from Perth County Economic Development at or 519-271-0531 Ext 150 before December 16, 2016 if you’d like to be involved!

Join community meetings in your municipality, town or city between January and April 2017 to help design a Perth4Youth strategy. Sign up today!
