PERTH COUNTY, ON – Perth County has launched a new webpage resource to educate the public and gather important data about the presence of coyotes in the area. This new initiative is in direct response to concerns raised from the public about the presence of coyotes and the potential for human-coyote interactions.
The initiative includes a new page on the County’s website as well as a reporting form. The new page (www.perthcounty.ca/coyotes) contains helpful information about what residents can do to prevent interactions with coyotes. On the page users can also find and the new coyote sighting reporting form. Historically, there has been no central data collection for coyote sightings in Perth County. The new form will help gather information about the date, time, and approximate location of the sightings.
“We’ve heard concerns from the community about coyote sightings and interactions in the County.” said Perth County Warden Rhonda Ehgoetz. “Council is taking action by providing a central resource with helpful educational information about coyotes. I encourage the public to learn more and use the new form to report any sightings to help us learn more about the presence of coyotes in our region.”
Members of the public can use the form to self-report any coyote sightings or interactions they experience in Perth County. By reporting sightings, the public will help gather important data that will inform staff and Council on the frequency and locations of interactions. The new website also contains helpful links about who to contact about wildlife in each municipality. Resources include:
