NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PERTH COUNTY, ON – Stratford-Perth Archives is inviting the public to attend an upcoming speaker session from author and historian Eric Edwards about using service records to learn more about First World War Veterans.
Eric will tell the story of how he used the service records of a Stratford man who once lived in the home where Eric presently resides. His presentation will give a grounding in how to read and glean valuable information from a First World War Canadian soldier's service file.
Employing examples from the service record, attendees will gain a better understanding of the types of information found in these fascinating records. The session will provide helpful insight into what can be found and used as a springboard to further research the people who served Canada in this sweeping world conflict.

About the Speaker:
About the speaker: In 2009, Eric's journey of discovery about the men who served in the 18th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force began. His connection to this battalion was his paternal grandfather, William "Billie" Dewar, who had the "distinction" of being the first soldier of the 18th Battalion to be wounded in action. Since then he has documented and researched the lives of the men of the 18th and has found the process of documenting the lives of the members of this unit a gateway to discovering a wide range of social history about the people's lives in Canada's past. This passion is expressed through his blog and Facebook Group about the 18th Battalion: https://18thbattalioncef.blog/author/phugoid/
