What is Business Retention and Expansion?
Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) is the process of connecting with the existing business community to understand and respond to local needs. BR+E can have various formats including informal discussions with local businesses, corporate visitation and other forms of engagement with the business community. A structured BR+E project can help with understanding individual business needs and responding to community-level business priorities, challenges and opportunities.
Why is Business Retention and Expansion being undertaken now?
Business Retention and Expansion are an ongoing process. The needs of the business community are constantly evolving in response to economic factors, market conditions, strategic opportunities and business growth plans.  Global/national challenges such as COVID-19 pandemic also often have a local impact that is important to understand. Understanding business priorities, needs and intentions will help Perth County engage with businesses in a meaningful way and provide the resources, services and connections to help businesses stay and prosper in Perth County. Previous BR+E studies have been conducted on a sample size of Perth County businesses to identify trends and issues at a community or industry level. The current BR+E program and survey is designed to include all businesses including farm businesses, in a data gathering exercise so that our team can uncover business-level intelligence to allow us to offer personalized support, connections, programs and resources.
How can I participate as a business owner?
A print copy of the Perth County BR+E Survey will be mailed to all business and farm addresses across Perth County through Canada Post's Neighbourhood Mail program. If you receive a survey, we encourage you to complete it and use the included postage-paid envelope and deposit in a mailbox by October 20, 2023.  You can also complete the survey online.  Your responses to both the printed and online survey will be kept confidential and only used to contact you if you so indicate.
