The final version of the New County Official Plan is now available on the County’s website. The County will hold a Statutory Public Meeting during the County Council Meeting on October 17, 2024 to present the New County Official Plan to the community and provide an opportunity for public comment. At the same Council meeting, the final version of the New County Official Plan document will be presented to County Council for endorsement and adoption. Following County Council’s adoption, the New County Official Plan will be forwarded onto the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing as the final approval authority for the Official Plan.
The public meeting allows members of the community the opportunity to make written and/or verbal comments either in support or in opposition of the proposed Official Plan. Comments can be submitted in advance of the meeting by email at newofficialplan@perthcounty.ca, by phone at 519-271-0531 ext. 419, or by mail to 1 Huron Street, Stratford, ON, N5A 5S4. The County hosted two Open House Information Sessions on July 22, 2024:
The Open House Information Sessions began with with a 15 minute update presentation (shared below). Following the update presentation, Information Boards were available throughout the room to further summarize the changes made to the Official Plan as a result of public feedback. Staff were distributed throughout the open house to answer questions. Steering Committee and Stakeholder Focus Group |
The Steering Committee is comprised of the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer of each Lower-Tier, as well as the Warden and Chief Administrative Officer of the County. The Steering Committee is responsible for reviewing and commenting on the draft Official Plan policies before it is received by Council. The Stakeholder Focus Group includes representatives of community agencies, organizations and interests. The Stakeholder Focus Group acts as a sounding board, providing input on the Official Plan public consultation. |
Indigenous Peoples Consultation |
Letters were drafted and sent to five organizations representing First Nation and Metis with interest in land within Perth County. The letter invited questions and comments about the process of developing a New OP and asked if there are particular interests or ways that staff can facilitate dialogue about the project. Whether or not there is interest in this particular project, it is important to get to know one another and build professional relationships with the indigenous groups whose traditional lands are within the boundary of Perth County. |
