Have you ever walked down a street where you used to live? Vivid recollections of what happened there and the people who lived nearby seem to come to mind more easily. Volunteer Paul Wilker and his supporters have just launched a new website called Streets of Stratford at www.streetsofstratford.ca where you can take a virtual stroll into the past because “each has a story to tell.”
The Streets of Stratford webpage can also be found on the Finding Aids and Digitized Collections page under the External Research Links tab along with many other resources.
Stratford-Perth Archives Reading Room is open for in-person research by appointment from Tuesday to Friday from 10AM until 3PM.
We ask that all appointments be made at least one week in advance.
When booking your appointment, staff will conduct a detailed reference interview with you, via phone or email, to identify records relevant to your research. The requested materials will be pulled prior to your visit and will be waiting when you arrive.
During Reading Room hours, we also welcome walk-in visitors. We encourage you to come in and discuss your research with staff, or set up future appointments. You may be able to access microfilm and other reading room materials but you will not have access to records stored in the Collections Room without an appointment. Researchers who have booked an appointment will have priority use of the microfilm reader / desk space.
Researchers who are not able to visit on weekdays have the option to request access to Reading Room resources and/or collections by appointment on Saturdays, subject to staff availability. As two staff will need to be scheduled for those Saturdays, the Archives Reference Technician will ask you to provide 3 or 4 possible dates for an appointment and then work with the Manager of Archives Services to schedule staff for one of those dates. Saturday appointment requests need to be made more than one week in advance.
All researchers are encouraged to contact Archives staff via email or telephone to discuss their research goals and/or to set up an appointment. Archives staff can be reached at (519) 271-0531 ext. 259 or click here to email us.
If you would like to discuss a possible donation, please contact the Archivist by calling (519) 271-0531 ext. 250 or click here to email the Archivist to set up a meeting.
