An Official Plan is a strategic planning document that establishes a policy framework to guide physical, social and economic development, the protection of the natural environment and resources, and which determines where and how a community will grow.
Within Perth County we have a County Official Plan which guides the long-term vision for growth and development within the County. The County Official Plan includes land use designations and corresponding land use maps (Schedules).
The local municipalities of Listowel, Milverton and Mitchell also have Official Plans which are based off of the direction and policies outlined in the County Official Plan but are tailored to the needs of their specific municipality.

County Council will consider site specific applications by property owners or their agents to amend the County Official Plan policies to permit a proposed new development to occur. As required by the Planning Act, a Public Meeting is conducted to consider the application and receive comments from members of the public, agencies and staff.
