Going to Court:

Provincial Offences Courts have resumed (early resolutions, trials, set date, adjournments, etc.). These matters are able to proceed by Zoom (audio or video) appearance or in-person appearance.

Given the continued operational impacts of COVID-19 to court operations, the Ontario Court of Justice recognizes the need to offer remote and in-person court options for parties and participants in POA proceedings to ensure access to justice is maintained.

Perth County Provincial Offences Court has expanded the use of technology in the courtroom. The Perth County Provincial Offences Court uses Zoom for remote appearances. The use of Zoom allows defendants to appear by video or audio on their scheduled appearance date. Click the button below for how to attend a Zoom appearance.

Check the Status of Traffic Tickets and Fines Online

A new online system has launched that allows Ontarians to look up the status of millions of Provincial Offences Act (POA) charges province-wide. This new online service makes it easier for members of the public to find information about POA Part I and III matters, such as how much they owe and how to pay, as well as where and when a trial or early resolution meeting is scheduled.

The system is available at http://www.ontario.ca/ticketsandfines

What happens if you ignore your ticket?

If you do not exercise one of the options within 15 days of receiving your offence notice, you will be deemed not to dispute the charge and a conviction may be entered against you. A Clerk of the Court will review the Certificate of Offence for defectiveness before entering a conviction.  Within 15 days of becoming aware of the conviction, you may apply for review by a Justice of the Peace.

Failure to pay the fine imposed upon conviction by the due date will result in one or more of the following:

  • For certain offences, including parking infractions, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation could refuse to issue or validate your vehicle permit
  • For certain offences, including speeding, your driver's licence could be suspended
  • You will be charged an additional administrative fee
  • Your defaulted fine will be referred to a collection agency
  • Your defaulted fine information will be given to a credit bureau.
What if I need more time to pay a Provincial Offences fine?

If you need more time to pay a provincial offence fine, contact the court office noted on the back of your ticket.

If you have already been convicted, you will be asked to fill out a form(s) that will be reviewed by a Clerk of the Court. This form will require you to fill in all of the information regarding your ticket including how much you have paid so far and a specific date that you would like it extended to.
